If you are looking to build more relationships and grow your network, I’m going to explain why you should start a podcast. Building relationships and networking takes effort, but it also requires some skill. Anyone can make social media posts, but people who develop their networking skills will find that they build more meaningful and impactful connections. So what does a podcast have to do with building a network or building networking skills?

Great question, I’m glad you asked.

Here are 6 reasons why you should start a podcast:

1. Simplicity.

Starting a Podcast is a relatively simple thing to do. There are many free podcast hosting platforms that you can use to get started. Podcasting can be as simple or as complex as you want them, to be.

2. Minimal equipment needed.

You don’t need to have a professional recording studio to record a podcast—you can literally do it from your phone. Probably not ideal if you are looking for great sound quality, but to get started, it’s always an option.

3. Low startup costs.

If you decide that you want to purchase some equipment for your podcast, you can get a USB microphone and decent headphones for under $100. Not to mention you can host your podcast for free… Oh wait, we did mention that. There are great paid for options too that are reasonably priced. I personally used Buzzsprout because I like how the metrics they pull are all Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) certified downloads/streams. To me, that IAB certification legitimizes my numbers.

4. Conversations Build Relationships.

If you are an extrovert and outgoing, this part is easy for you. However, if you are an introvert, you might find this part a little more difficult, but the best part is, you can make it easier. As a podcaster, you can prepare before you have a conversation. One of my favorite things to do before hitting the record button is have a short conversation with my guest. I like to make sure we both feel at ease and are comfortable talking to each other. It goes a long way to making an interview more enjoyable. It also helps build that lasting relationship.

5. Not the expert? That’s ok.

You also don’t need to be the expert in everything. Bring on guests that are the expert in that subject matter. One of the selfish things about running your own podcast is that you can pick the brain of a subject matter expert and ask the questions you want answers to. I have learned so much just from doing amazing interviews with other awesome people and have made some fantastic connections through it. It works! It’s actually how I wound up as a speaker at the Real Estate Wealth Builders Conference! I stay in touch with every single one of my guests and connect with them on social media.

6. Grow your email list.

There are few things that we do on the internet that we can say we actually own. If Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or LinkedIn shut down tomorrow, there isn’t really anything you can do about it. All of those “connections” are now lost. But you know what you get to keep if those where to ever shut down? You’re email list! Having an email list is important to communicate to your network. You can use a podcast to grow your email list with a simple call to action. You can then use that email list to grow your podcast following by hosting different giveaways or other things to get people talking about your show.
